June 26, 2003 - Roughrider Legends Will Be Back on the Field to Help Saskatchewan Kids in 2003

June 26, 2003

Roughrider Legends Will Be Back on the
Field to Help Saskatchewan Kids in 2003

Through their exploits on the turf at Taylor Field in seasons past, they helped build the legend of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The idea behind "Line Up with the Legends" is simple. Corporate sponsors will enter teams in a competition to be held at halftime in front of 40,000 cheering fans during the Roughrider home game on September 28. For the challenge, the Roughrider legends will each lead a team in a race through an obstacle course set up on the Taylor Field turf. The teams - including one comprised of celebrity participants - will be competing for great prizes including Grey Cup packages, and all proceeds from corporate donations will go to the SaskEnergy Catch for KidSport™ program.

"'Line Up with the Legends' is an exciting new addition to the 2003 SaskEnergy Catch for KidSport™ program," said Ron Clark, SaskEnergy President and CEO. "These former Roughriders have given a lot to the Province over the years, and they're doing it again - this time by giving corporate sponsors a chance to help out aspiring athletes across Saskatchewan."

Clark announced that current Roughrider kicker Paul McCallum will once again act as one of the official Catch for KidSport™ ambassadors, raising public awareness for the program and lending his foot to a good cause. Clark also noted that throughout the CFL regular season, SaskEnergy will donate $25 per Roughrider field goal, $25 per offensive pass completion and $100 per touchdown to KidSport™ Saskatchewan.

"For the sixth straight year, SaskEnergy will be donating money to KidSport™ based on the Roughriders' on-field performance," he said. "With the Grey Cup game in the Province this year, I'm sure the Roughriders will be putting up big numbers, and that's good news for KidSport."

All funds raised through the Catch for KidSport™ program will go directly to KidSport™ Saskatchewan, a charity that helps children from families facing financial obstacles to participate in community sports programs around the Province. Last year the program had its most successful year ever, raising $35,499.58 that enabled almost 500 kids participate in sports programs. Since the program's inception in 1998 by Don Narcisse and SaskEnergy, over $104,000 has been raised, which has helped 1431 children in Saskatchewan.

Also at Taylor Field, Mike Schindel, General Manager of Sherwood Co-op, announced that Co-op gas bars in both Regina and Indian Head will be selling Bobbleheads to raise funds for KidSport™ in 2003.

Jim Fink, Volunteer Chair of KidSport™ Saskatchewan, is thrilled with the way the 2003 SaskEnergy Catch for KidSport™ program is shaping up. "KidSport's goal is to provide children with the opportunity to learn values such as teamwork, dedication and self-esteem through sport, and there are no better role models for Saskatchewan kids than these former Roughriders," he said. "By coming together to support the program, all these groups - current and former Roughriders, SaskEnergy, Regina's Co-op Gas Bars and Indian Head location, and our media and corporate sponsors - are helping to fulfill the dreams of hundreds of kids across Saskatchewan."

Donations can be made to the program by calling 1-800-319-GAME or by visiting the SaskEnergy website at www.saskenergy.com, where further information about "Line Up with the Legends" will also be available. Pledges can also be mailed to the SaskEnergy Catch For Kids Program, c/o KidSport™ Saskatchewan, 1870 Lorne Street, Regina, Saskatchewan, S4P 2L7.
