Rider Legends Set Record With Catch For KidSport™

A group of Saskatchewan Roughrider Legends helped to set a new record at Taylor Field today - and in doing so helped to build futures for Saskatchewan children.

During half-time at Taylor Field, former Roughriders Don Narcisse, Roger Aldag, Cleveland Vann, Jim Hopson, Bob Poley, Greg Fieger, Garner Ekstran, Larry Dumelie, Ron Cherkas, Dan Farthing, Brooks Findlay and Robert Mimbs took part in "Line Up with the Legends" and helped 12 corporate teams raise more than $27,000 for the 2003 SaskEnergy Catch for KidSport™ program.

That brings the total for this year's Catch for KidSport™ campaign to more than $40,000 - surpassing last year's record setting campaign - with three more games left in the Saskatchewan Roughriders regular season.

"The money raised by these Rider Legends and the corporations which participated in 'Line Up with the Legends' will be a tremendous help to the KidSport™ organization, and to thousands of kids right across this province," said Ron Clark, President and CEO, SaskEnergy. "These former Roughriders remember how sports helped shape them into the people they are today - and they know that through their support, KidSport™ is making children's' dreams come true."

For the "Line Up with the Legends" challenge, the Roughrider Legends each lead a team in a race through an obstacle course set up on the Taylor Field turf at half-time during the Saskatchewan Roughrider-Toronto Argonauts game. The teams have spent the past few months collecting pledges for the event.

"On behalf of KidSport™ kids throughout the province, I thank all those who supported this challenge, including the Legends, corporate teams and SaskEnergy. It is through these types of activities that all kids in Saskatchewan can have the opportunity to play sports and grow as individuals," said Jim Fink, Chair of KidSport™ Saskatchewan.

Throughout the Roughriders 2003 CFL Season, SaskEnergy will is donating $25 per Roughrider field goal, $25 per offensive pass completion and $100 per touchdown to KidSport™ Saskatchewan.

All funds raised through the Catch for KidSport™ program will go directly to KidSport™ Saskatchewan, a charity that helps children from families facing financial obstacles to participate in community sports programs around the province. Last year the program had its most successful year ever, raising $35,499.58 that enabled almost 500 kids to participate in sports programs. Since the program's inception in 1998 by Don Narcisse and SaskEnergy, over $104,000 has been raised, which has helped 1431 children in Saskatchewan.

Donations can be made to the program by calling 1-800-319-GAME or by visiting the SaskEnergy Catch for Kidsport website at catchforkidsport.saskenergy.com. Donations can also be mailed to the SaskEnergy Catch For KidSport™ Program, c/o KidSport™ Saskatchewan, 1870 Lorne Street, Regina, Saskatchewan, S4P 2L7.
