November 19, 2003 - Volunteers Help Make Grey Cup "Flat-Out Fun" in Saskatchewan

November 19, 2003

Volunteers Help Make Grey Cup
 "Flat-Out Fun" in Saskatchewan

"Flat-out fun" was the only way to describe Grey Cup 2003, and volunteers played a big part in helping Saskatchewan host the best Grey Cup celebration ever.

Grey Cup week began on the night of November 10 with SaskEnergy's Volunteer Appreciation Evening, an event that saw more than 1,000 volunteers pour into the Agribition Building in Regina for food, fun and festivities. At the event, SaskEnergy President and CEO Ron Clark told the crowd of volunteers that their giving spirit helps define everything that is great about Saskatchewan.

"SaskEnergy is extremely proud of the volunteers from SaskEnergy and TransGas and the thousands of other volunteers from all walks of life, from all across Saskatchewan, who are helping inject energy into this year's celebration," he said. "You really are the backbone of this year's Grey Cup, and we thank you so much for giving yourself to these events."

Regina mayor Pat Fiacco and Saskatchewan Premier Lorne Calvert were also on hand to help kick-start the volunteer spirit and thank volunteers for their commitment to Grey Cup 2003.

During the week, over 3,000 volunteers from more than 125 Saskatchewan communities spent countless hours working at the many Grey Cup events and doing such things as greeting, transporting and assisting visitors from across North America. At the airport, at the various events, at the Grey Cup Parade, and at the big game itself, these smiling volunteers helped the province put its best foot forward for thousands of visitors to Saskatchewan. It was due in large part to their efforts that Grey Cup 2003 was such a success.

Of these 3,000 volunteers, 150 were from SaskEnergy/TransGas, so SaskEnergy was well-represented as the "Official Sponsor of Volunteers" for Grey Cup 2003. Because of the giving spirit the volunteers exhibited, Grey Cup week will remain an experience of a lifetime for most people who had the opportunity to be part of it.

SaskEnergy would like to thank all the Grey Cup volunteers for sharing their volunteer spirit and helping make Grey Cup week "flat-out fun" for everyone.
