Government Approves SaskEnergy Rate Increase

November 29, 2006

La Ronge and Area Residents Encouraged to Say "Yes" to Natural Gas

SaskEnergy and the Anglin Lake - La Ronge Natural Gas Committee are encouraging residents of La Ronge and area to sign up now for natural gas service. Public Meetings were held today in Weyakwin and La Ronge to give people the chance to learn more about natural gas service.

"We're excited about bringing the benefits of natural gas to La Ronge and area," said Doug Kelln, President and Chief Executive Officer, SaskEnergy. "Our goal is to have 500 homes and businesses signed up by January 31st, so early commitments will make a difference in allowing us to begin work on this project."

Pending the results of customer interest in this service offering, construction of the natural gas pipeline from Montreal Lake to La Ronge could begin in the summer of 2007, creating additional opportunities for local residents and businesses.

Based on current rates for fuel oil, electricity and propane, customers who sign up for natural gas service can save approximately 40 per cent on their space and water heating costs. Depending on equipment efficiency, that could mean a savings of up to $2,000 annually.

"When you say 'Yes' to natural gas, you not only benefit through fuel savings and convenience, but the whole community benefits," said Alice Tataryn, chairperson of the Anglin Lake - La Ronge Natural Gas Committee. "This service offering to La Ronge and area is an opportunity for homeowners to improve their property values, while encouraging economic growth through energy savings to the entire community."

Customer commitments received by January 31, 2007, will be eligible for a draw for a gift certificate up to $5,000 for natural gas appliances and for other great prizes. As well, pay in full by January 31, 2007 and you'll get a 4% discount!

Details on customer benefits and costs will be distributed to all homes and businesses in La Ronge and area within the next two weeks.
