SaskEnergy Safe Digging Excellence Award celebrates organizations committed to safe digging and community safety.
SaskEnergy is pleased to recognize Yaremy Screw Piles with a SaskEnergy Safe Digging Excellence Award.
The Melfort company supplies and installs screw piles for a range of projects including homes, garages, additions, shops, concrete pathways, decks, sunrooms, bridges, foundation repairs (underpinning), and bin anchors. It also does other earthwork projects.
“The line locates helps us to make sure that everyone on the job site will be safe, that we don’t create any problems, damages, or delays for our client, and that we all get to go home at the end of the day,” said Steve Yaremy, owner/operator of Yaremy Screw Piles.
“It is a great free service that normally doesn’t take more than three business days, so it is easy to plan ahead to keep everyone on the job site safe.”
Companies who follow safe digging practices are protecting community safety by reducing the risk of property damage and personal injury while ensuring their projects can be completed on time. With nearly 88,000 kilometres of buried gas line, serving more than 400,000 urban and rural customers across the province, maintaining the safety and integrity of its system is a key focus of SaskEnergy and promoting safe digging practices is an important part of this work.
“By working together with the digging community, we have seen record low contacts with our lines over the past three years,” said Kevin Adair, Executive Vice President, Customer Service Operations for SaskEnergy. “Contractors like Yaremy Screw Piles, who reduce the risk of damage to underground infrastructure through their approach to their work, deserve to be recognized and this is why the Safe Digging Excellence Award was created.”
This award was presented to Yaremy at the Dig Safe Awareness Breakfast at the Golden Age Centre in Tisdale on April 3, 2025. The two other recipients of this award will be announced on April 16th in Yorkton and April 24th in Weyburn.
The Dig Safe breakfasts are hosted by the Saskatchewan Common Ground Alliance (SCGA) in communities across Saskatchewan during April, which is Dig Safe month and the unofficial start of spring digging season.
