Today, SaskEnergy launched its Share the Warmth Days, a series of events taking place across the province aimed at highlighting community-based organizations who bring warm shelter, food, clothing and mental health services to those who need it most.
The events recognize the 30th anniversary of SaskEnergy’s Share the Warmth program and the participating charitable groups are some of this year’s 106 grant recipients.
“SaskEnergy’s Share the Warmth Days celebrate the tireless efforts of organizations dedicated to supporting people and communities across Saskatchewan,” says Jeremy Harrison, Minister Responsible for SaskEnergy. “Through the longstanding Share the Warmth program, SaskEnergy has invested more than half a million dollars and has supported over 500 projects that help vulnerable persons in our province.”
The first Share the Warmth Day highlights the work of the Saskatoon Public Library and the Central Urban Metis Federation Inc., two grant recipients that play an essential role in helping the most vulnerable in their communities.
“The organizations that participate in the Share the Warmth program in Saskatoon and throughout the province are essential to the communities they serve,” says Mark Guillet, President and CEO of SaskEnergy. “I have watched this program grow over the last three decades and take great pride in the positive impact it has on the organizations that receive the grants as well as the people they support.”
“Saskatoon Public Library is grateful for the funding support through SaskEnergy’s Share the Warmth grant,” said Lydia Moss, Saskatoon Public Library Senior Manager, Inclusivity and Community Partnerships. “This funding allows us to keep a supply of emergency winter gear on-hand at each library location, in the event that someone has lost, misplaced or simply does not have access to adequate winter gear.”
Grant recipients across the province will be providing various services through their Share the Warmth projects. The initiatives range from helping people learn how to cook nutritious meals, knitting clothing and blankets, and providing transportation services and food hampers, to supplying winter boots and other essential winter gear for children.
In recognition of the program’s 30 years, SaskEnergy invested $100,000 in grants to charitable organizations this year.

About SaskEnergy’s Share the Warmth program:
Starting out as a sweater recycling program that redistributed more than a million articles of clothing, Share the Warmth has transformed over the last decade into a grassroots initiative that supports charitable organizations in bringing warm shelter, clothing and mental health services to those who need it most. Each year, SaskEnergy provides grants up to $1,000 to support organizations in launching their Share the Warmth projects.
