SaskEnergy Safe Digging Excellence Award celebrates organizations committed to safe digging and community safety.

SaskEnergy is pleased to recognize Jerry Mainil Limited with a SaskEnergy Safe Digging Excellence Award.

The Weyburn company works throughout southeast Saskatchewan on a variety of projects and delivers many services, including civil construction, pipeline integrity inspections, maintenance and reclamation work and more.

“Jerry Mainil Limited does not do any excavating without having line locates completed prior to commencing any project,” said Darcy McCormick, CEO of Jerry Mainil Limited.

“The time it takes to request line locates is negligible and the peace of mind that this gives to the customer, the equipment operator and the contractor is invaluable.”

Companies who follow safe digging practices are protecting community safety by reducing the risk of property damage and personal injury while ensuring their projects can be completed on time. With nearly 88,000 kilometres of buried gas line, serving more than 400,000 urban and rural customers across the province, maintaining the safety and integrity of its system is a key focus of SaskEnergy and promoting safe digging practices is an important part of this work.

“The Safe Digging Excellence Award was created to recognize and celebrate contractors, like Jerry Mainil Limited, who reduce the risk of damage to underground infrastructure,” said Kevin Adair, Executive Vice President, Customer Service Operations for SaskEnergy. “Thanks to the conscientiousness of the digging community, SaskEnergy has had record low contacts with our buried infrastructure over the past three years. Jerry Mainil Limited is an example for other contractors in the province when it comes to their work around buried infrastructure and this award is about highlighting their practices.”

In the first year of the award, SaskEnergy is recognizing three Saskatchewan businesses. Each has completed at least 25 line locates per year over the last three years and has experienced zero contacts with underground infrastructure.

SaskEnergy’s transmission and distribution system combined includes nearly 90,000 kilometres of gas line, serving more than 400,000 urban and rural customers across the province. Maintaining the safety and integrity of our system is a key focus of SaskEnergy, and damage prevention is a priority.

This award was presented to McCormick at the Dig Safe Awareness Breakfast at McKenna Hall in Weyburn on April 24, 2025. The two other recipients of this award are Yaremy Screw Piles of Melfort (awarded on April 3rd in Tisdale) and Parkland Contracting and Vac Services of Yorkton (awarded April 16th in Yorkton).

The Dig Safe breakfasts are hosted by the Saskatchewan Common Ground Alliance (SCGA) in communities across Saskatchewan during April, which is Dig Safe month and the unofficial start of spring digging season.
