SaskEnergy supports community safety through cleanup events
For several years running, SaskEnergy employees have volunteered their time to support annual community cleanups in Regina and Yorkton.
In Regina on May 11, SaskEnergy pitched in at the North Central Community Association (NCCA)’s annual community cleanup to help make the central Regina neighbourhood a bit cleaner and safer.
More than 20 employees and their family members assisted in filling nine oversized garbage bins with difficult-to-dispose items. These included tires, scrap metal, mattresses, furniture, appliances and yard debris. Meanwhile, the NCCA enlisted a group of young people to pick up the smaller household garbage scattered throughout the alleys.
“SaskEnergy is incredibly proud of the amazing employee volunteer champions who assisted members of our community through this event,” says Allix Schweitzer, SaskEnergy’s Supervisor of Community Engagement. “Not only did our staff contribute to making the North Central neighbourhood a safer place to live; they also made a positive impact on the environment.”
SaskEnergy also provided sponsorship funding for the NCCA cleanup.
In Yorkton, for the fourth year in a row, our team participated in the City of Yorkton’s annual weeklong spring cleanup event. Yorkton employees and their families collected seven large bags worth of trash from the Logan Green Park area on May 9.
“A lot of people use the five-kilometre walking paths and we like to do our part to make it clean and safe,” says Elmer Hollinger, a SaskEnergy Operations Manager in the Yorkton area. “We sign up for the cleanup each year and challenge other groups and businesses to do the same.”
Saskatchewan has the highest rate of volunteerism in Canada, and SaskEnergy is proud to support our staff and those who give back throughout the province as the Champion of Volunteers.
Thank you to everyone who volunteered during these recent cleanups to positively impact our communities!
