SaskEnergy offers rebates, program to support heating efficiency and safety this winter

As the winter heating season begins, SaskEnergy has launched three programs to assist homeowners across the province with home equipment upgrades, maintenance and safety. SaskEnergy’s Residential Equipment Replacement Rebate, the Carbon Monoxide Alarm Rebate, and a second phase of the Tune-Up Assistance Program (TAP) are available to residents as of November 2^nd, 2020. 
 
Building on its successful Residential Furnace Rebate in 2019, SaskEnergy has renamed and expanded the program for 2020-21 to include monetary rebates for the purchase and installation of qualifying high-efficiency natural gas furnaces, boilers, combi-boilers, HRVs, and water heaters through SaskEnergy Network Members. Rebate amounts will vary depending on the eligible equipment being installed. 
 
“Last year, SaskEnergy provided more than $1 million in support for Saskatchewan customers through rebate programs,” said Bronwyn Eyre, Minister of Responsible for SaskEnergy. “The expanded Residential Equipment Replacement Rebate will support homeowner investments in upgraded, energy-efficient equipment and optimize home energy use, which will save customers both energy and money. 
 
As the temperatures drop and furnaces across the province are firing up, it is important that homeowners take steps to ensure that their furnace(s) run as efficiently and safely as possible through proper maintenance. SaskEnergy’s Tune-Up Assistance Program (TAP) has provided quality furnace maintenance to 1,300 low-income homeowners across the province over the past four years. The 2020 program was launched in June, and SaskEnergy is now opening a second application period to reach additional homeowners this winter. 
 
Qualified applicants receive a free Home Heating Tune-Up from a local SaskEnergy Network Member, two furnace filters, a carbon monoxide alarm, and up to $100 in equipment repairs if required.  
 
In addition to the program expansions, SaskEnergy is also offering a rebate on carbon monoxide alarms from participating retailers across the province. The $10 rebate will be applied at the point of purchase in 139 stores across 75 communities until January 31^st, 2021. Carbon monoxide alarms are the first line of defense when it comes to protecting residents from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Program Facts

• The rebates are available from November 2^nd, 2020 until March 31^st, 2021 – customers can visit the SaskEnergy website to find a SaskEnergy Network Member for program access.
• Equipment must be purchased from and installed by a participating SaskEnergy Network Member.  

• In 2019, this rebate was called the Residential Furnace Rebate – a total of 850 rebates were provided in 110 communities across Saskatchewan.  This year’s program has been renamed the Residential Equipment Replacement Rebate and expanded to include additional equipment. 

Tune-Up Assistance Program:

• The program is designed to raise awareness of proper maintenance for heating equipment and the importance of carbon monoxide safety.  Qualified homeowners receive: a “tune-up” of their home heating equipment; up to $100-worth of repairs; two furnace filters; and a carbon monoxide alarm.  
• Qualification requirements for TAP include: 
  • A combined household gross income under $68,000; 
  • Located in, or within a 20-kilometre radius of, one of the participating SaskEnergy Network Members;
  • Renters/rental properties are not eligible;  Must have a satisfactory credit score with SaskEnergy; and
  • Previous program participants are not eligible. 
• The first application period for 2020 ran from June 10^th to August 11^th, and assisted 544 low-income homeowners.  The second application period will run from November 2^nd to December 11^th, 2020. 
• Customers can apply on the SaskEnergy website, through a SaskEnergy Customer Service Representative at 1-800-567-8899, or through a participating SaskEnergy Network Member location. 
• Since TAP’s inception in 2017, 1,300 Saskatchewan homeowners in 45 communities have benefited from this program. 

Carbon Monoxide Alarm Rebate:

•  Runs from November 2^nd, 2020 to January 31^st, 2021.
• A $10 rebate will be applied at point of purchase in 139 participating stores in 75 communities.

• Eligible CO alarms include plug-in, wired or battery-operated alarms, as well as combo-alarms with CO component, and multipacks.  

SaskEnergy Network Members:

• SaskEnergy Network Members are qualified independent plumbing and heating retailers and contractors.
• The SaskEnergy Residential Network was launched in 1998.  There are currently 157 Residential Network Members in 53 communities throughout Saskatchewan.  A full list of Network Members can be found on the SaskEnergy website.  
• The Residential Equipment Replacement Rebate and TAP are offered exclusively through participating Residential Network Member contractors. 
• Network Members offer financing on approved credit.
