Remove a Gas Line or Meter

You may need to remove a gas line or meter if you are demolishing or removing a building. The following steps outline the process and estimated timelines.

1

Online Application

Timeline: 3–5 business days to process your application.
Gather all required information and supporting documentation before you start the online application. The following information is mandatory to process your application. Incomplete or inaccurate information will significantly delay your request. You must include:

  • Legal name and contact information of building/lot owner who is responsible for payment.
  • Natural gas meter number(s) (required for upgrade work).
  • Your contractor’s name and contact information.
  • Natural gas consumption information:
    • Detailed loads, including future loads. Consumption details in BTU/HR or M3/HR can be found on the equipment, through the manufacturer, or by contacting your mechanical contractor.

Site Visit, Estimate and Agreements

Timeline: 7-10 business days after we have received your completed application. The following options may be presented to you at your site visit:

Option 1: Permanent Removal of Natural Gas Service

Choose this option if you do not plan to reconnect natural gas service. Your project will be added to SaskEnergy’s schedule and a construction crew will plan their visit based on your geographic area.

 Timeline: 4-6 weeks.

Option 2: Temporary Service Disconnection

Temporary cutback of natural gas service with permanent removal to follow. Choose this option if you do not plan to reconnect the natural gas service and are willing to pay a fee to expedite the timeline.

Timeline: 1-2 weeks for the cutback.  4-6 weeks for permanent removal. Following the cutback a second construction crew will arrive to permanently remove the service.

Option 3: Temporary Removal of Natural Gas Service

Choose this option if you plan to reconnect natural gas service within one year. Please note that there will be a fee for temporarily cutting off the service and an additional fee for reinstalling the service.

Timeline: 1-2 weeks. When you are ready to reconnect, review the reinstall process and complete the application form.

What to expect during a site visit
  • The owner must be present.
  • A technician will review the application request and site with you.
  • The technician will provide an estimate and service agreement for your project. This can be accepted and signed during the site visit.
3

Acceptance of Agreement

 Timeline:

  • If the service agreement is not signed during the site visit, you have 30 days to contact SaskEnergy to proceed with the project at estimated costs. The estimate and agreement will then be sent via Docusign.
  • You have 14 days to accept and sign the estimate and agreement from the time you receive the documents.
  • Estimate and agreement will be cancelled if the above timelines expire. A new application will be required to proceed with the project.
4

Site Preparation and Construction

 Timeline: According to option selected.

You will receive an email when your project has been added to the work schedule. A second notification will be sent with the site assessment and construction crew arrival timeline. Ensure the applicable Site Readiness Requirements are met before this date.

5

Billing and Invoicing

Timeline: 30-45 days after construction is complete.

You will receive a line item on your SaskEnergy bill for the service(s).
