Consultation and Partnerships

Consultation

We begin conversations early when planning work close to Traditional Land, Crown Land, or a First Nations Reserve. To support regulatory and contractual requirements, we provide resources and respond to unique governance processes.

There are also opportunities for Indigenous Peoples to actively take part in fieldwork assessments and honor traditional land use ceremonies. Elders can also provide guidance as part of gas line construction activities.

Partnerships

To strengthen relationships and to build working partnerships, the following are some examples of agreements or processes we support:

  • Band Council Resolutions (BCR)
A BCR, provided by Chief & Council, outlines how we work together to conduct, operate, and maintain natural gas infrastructure on each reserve. A BCR must be in place prior to work beginning.
  • Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce Indigenous Engagement Charter
The Charter indicates the actions SaskEnergy will take to enhance the levels of engagement with Indigenous People, Indigenous-owned businesses and Indigenous communities.
  • Tribal Council Partnership Agreements
SaskEnergy recognizes the Indigenous community is an important stakeholder to create growth and to develop Saskatchewan. We encourage and foster partnerships for employment, education & training, and business development.

Employee Engagement

SaskEnergy is committed to educating our workforce and to foster an understanding of Indigenous culture by:

  • Supporting SaskEnergy Aboriginal Government Employees (SAGE) - a committee dedicated to promoting Indigenous education and culture within the workplace
  • Encouraging employees to participate in Crown Investment Corporation’s Indigenous Cultural Awareness Program (ICAP)
  • Actively participating in Indigenous-focused community events as representatives of SaskEnergy
