You never know what you can experience during a one-year co-op term with SaskEnergy.

From job shadowing opportunities and tours to discovering a passion for volunteerism, Zahra Hosseinmardi experienced a lot in her time at SaskEnergy. And that’s all on top of the valuable job experience she received with our Enterprise Information Management (EIM) team!

“I'm really thankful for all the opportunities I have received at SaskEnergy,” says Zahra. “The people have been friendly, supportive and willing to help me with anything. The experience was meaningful for me.”

During her time with our EIM team, Zahra learned about how SaskEnergy manages records, such as emails, work orders and invoices. Her role also involved providing guidance to different teams on how to properly handle, store or dispose of records.

That networking opened the door to job shadowing opportunities in our Human Resources and Safety division, which gave Zahra the opportunity to learn more about the work of those teams

“I think making those connections is really important for a student that is just starting to enter the workforce,” says Zahra. “I was able to learn so much that I wasn't aware of.”

Zahra moved from Tehran, Iran to Regina in 2022 to attend University and, prior to joining SaskEnergy, she didn’t have the chance to experience volunteering. During her co-op term with our company, she participated on SaskEnergy’s team in the KidSport Corporate Challenge where she not only had fun but found a cause she wanted to get behind outside of work.

“I love kids and I know that there are some less fortunate ones that have a hard time playing sports or pursuing their dreams,” says Zahra. “It's really nice to see people at SaskEnergy putting in the effort to help those kids as much as they can.”

As a result of this experience, Zahra was inspired to volunteer for two other KidSport fundraisers in Regina.

Zahra also had the opportunity to learn more about Canadian and SaskEnergy’s culture through participation in activities such as Indigenous cultural awareness training, SaskEnergy’s annual beach volleyball tournament, a lunch hour Mario Kart tournament and tours of our facilities.

“I think it's really important to have that kind of engagement throughout the whole company,” says Zahra. “I appreciate that SaskEnergy has ways to engage people in activities where we can get to know each other and have fun.”

Making connections, learning and developing is all part of what SaskEnergy offers all our employees.

“Co-op terms and the experiences that come with them help students like Zahra build a strong professional network, and develop essential skills for their future careers,” says Mackenzie Gosselin – Specialist, Enterprise Information Management and Zahra’s supervisor.
