Employees from SaskEnergy’s Swift Current office have once again stepped up to help families in need in their community. For more than a decade, they have been carrying on a tradition of supporting the local Salvation Army food bank.

“It’s a team effort for a great cause,” says Mike Rossiter, General Manager of Operations in the Southwest Area. “In the fall, we put a call out to our Operations and Customer Service team members, and they come through every year.”

In addition to employee donations, SaskEnergy provided a $200 grant to purchase items for the food bank.

The team members focused on food items that the Salvation Army deemed high priority, such as rice, pasta, cooking oil and peanut butter.

“I grew up in Swift Current, so this is home for me, and it means a lot to give back to the community,” says Sheri Schafer, a member of our Customer Service team in Swift Current. “Times are tough for a lot of families, and even more so this time of year, so it’s a great feeling to help in any way possible.”

The Salvation Army always appreciates the Swift Current team’s annual efforts.

“It is a blessing to know SaskEnergy will be coming in each year with food donations for the food bank,” says Alondra McKeown, Community and Family Services Worker, Swift Current Salvation Army. “These donations will be used to keep the shelves full for the next few months. We are so grateful to all the SaskEnergy staff who make this happen.”

The Swift Current office plans to keep this tradition going strong.

“We will certainly continue supporting this program for years to come,” says Mike. “The people of Swift Current are more than just our customers, they’re our families, our friends and our neighbours.”
