First Nations artists Tim Neal and Jade Roberts have shared their talent and expertise with SaskEnergy through two recent projects.

Their artwork will appear across Saskatchewan on SaskEnergy billboards, advertisements, social media and at events. We are proud to showcase their work while we connect with Indigenous communities.

Tim’s designs include a new version of SaskEnergy’s logo and other images. These show scenes from nature aligned with the sacred elements — fire, water, earth and air.

“Having an actual designer or the artwork being done by First Nations provides a ton of cultural significance. It just shows that we’re still there, that we have a voice and that we’re being allowed to speak,” says Tim, a Cree artist based in Saskatoon.

You’ll see Tim’s art through our programs that support Indigenous people and communities. These may include the many events we sponsor, such as powwows and education series, our First Nations Furnace Replacement Rebate, and our scholarship program for Indigenous students.

Jade’s paintings of flowers and a parent and child appear on SaskEnergy’s safety signs at First Nations across the province. There are 52 First Nations in Saskatchewan that have natural gas service.

“Storytelling is so important to me and it’s so important in our culture. (SaskEnergy) really wanted to give me the reins and allow me to create what I was envisioning,” says Jade, a member of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band. “I think it’s meaningful because it’s Indigenous artwork in Indigenous communities. When it’s for your own people, it has so much more meaning.”

“It was a great experience collaborating with these two artists,” says Joseph Daniels, SaskEnergy’s Director of Indigenous Engagement. “I believe people are going to notice and appreciate their designs out in the community. And I think everyone at SaskEnergy can take pride in that our company is looking at ways to strengthen relationships with First Nations and Métis citizens in the province.”
